Amanda and Brandon are such a sweet couple, and after a few conversations with Amanda, I knew exactly where I wanted to photograph Amanda & Brandon’s maternity portraits! She told me that they married on the beach in Florida, and that they love to vacation to Hawaii–and I am so glad they were up for a little drive across the DFW metroplex from Mansfield, all the way to Grapevine–so that they could enjoy a beach-like maternity session! Their little one is due any day now, and I can’t wait to meet him, as I’m sure Amanda & Brandon are anxious to meet him as well! As we wait for his arrival, I hope you’ll enjoy a few of my favorite maternity portraits from their maternity session from back in April.

We began our session with portraits of Luke with his golf bag, and then had fun doing several sequences of Luke hitting golf balls. When he went inside to change outfits, I was able to photograph some one year portraits for his little sister–who will be featured in her own blog post soon! Then we wrapped up his senior portraits with a some more traditional senior portraits of Luke.

Ashtyn’s mom contacted me earlier this year–back in February–for Ashtyn’s senior portrait session. I was so excited that they scheduled it so far in advance of graduation, as I remembered from last year how it can become stressful for seniors and their family’s when the senior session is scheduled closer to graduation.  We lucked out, and despite our recent cold weather, we had a fabulously warm afternoon in February for Ashtyn’s Senior Portrait Session.

Ashtyn is graduating from LeSassier Academy of Fine Arts this spring, and both of her parents are proud of her accomplishments and are excited for her future. We began our session at Trinity Park in Fort Worth, where Ashtyn’s family had often frequented while growing up. We then headed over to the Stockyards, to add variety to her senior portraits. I totally love how the outfits she chose totally matched her personality, and went great with each location we shot at. Thank you Preston & Anna for being up for this grande adventure, and for capturing such sweet fall family portraits for our family–see end of post for two of my faves that Preston shot of my hubby and I. We had a blast out there with y’all, and especially enjoyed the delicious pizza buffet & conversations along the way!

Here are two faves from our end of the fall portrait swap! The one one the right can even be seen in our adoption fundraising cookbook!

This is also a great option for those of you that are in the process of a domestic newborn adoption in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area and would like to have a portrait session that could include the birth parents as well as the adoptive parents, especially if it is an open adoption arrangement. In fact, I hope to have a session like this when my husband and I welcome a new little one to our family through domestic newborn adoption, and would love to include the birth parents in something like this!

She was born the day before her Fresh 48 mini session, and mom & dad were already back home with their new little bundle of joy! I know Charlie has been such a blessing to her mom & dad, and I can’t wait to see them all again soon!

Adalyn was a joy, she truly was one of the easiest newborns I have come across in a while, and I think the combination of scheduling her session at 5 days young, along with mom being sure she was recently fed, and keeping the area we were shooting quite warm with white noise going, all helped her to sleep deeply throughout her session.

This smiling shot I got of Adalyn was at the end of her newborn session, as she was beginning to wake up. I saw her begin to stir, and whispered in a sweet voice to her, that she could wake up if she smiles. Seriously, not 5 seconds later, she was grinning at mom and I! We were both happily surprised by Adalyn’s adorable grin, and thankful I was standing ready for this once in a session opportunity to capture Adalyn smiling at us!

Moms frequently ask if newborn sessions include any pictures with parents and/or siblings–and my answer to them is that my first priority is to provide high quality newborn portraits, and then we can work on creating some portraits that capture the joy of the newest addition to their family. For Adalyn’s session, Dad stayed with big brother until we were ready for Dad and big brother to join us for the family portion of Adalyn’s newborn session. That arrangement worked out great for this newborn session.

If you are expecting, please contact me during your pregnancy to get your newborn session scheduled–don’t worry, I can be flexible with the exact date, as due dates are not always the birth date. Contacting me during your pregnancy ensures you have priority session scheduling once baby does arrive. It also allows us the opportunity to discuss tips for newborn session success as well as colors and/or props for your newborn session.

If you are adopting, and would like to schedule a newborn session with me, I would suggest also taking advantage of my Fresh 48 mini session, in lieu of the maternity session,  which is a complimentary add on with all of my newborn sessions.

For example, I recently had one client where he wanted to have some urban/edgy portraits, but she wanted some portraits with a more nature-like setting–so I recommended a full length portrait session for their family, and we began their session in Deep Ellum, a section of Dallas, and wrapped things up near White Rock Lake, another nearby section of Dallas. Another recent client is from East Texas, but wanted to travel to the metroplex for their engagement session, to have a unique location–while still taking into consideration their love for the look of a historic downtown, we decided on Grapevine for them–and I surprised them with a secluded beach area at nearby Grapevine Lake that I had recently scouted out–which was great for them because it reminded them of when he proposed to her on the beach in Florida! One thing my clients love about their custom portrait experience with Kathryn Ewton Photography is the dedication I have in providing them with a location that meets or exceeds their vision for their portraits!

Melissa was no different, she called me up and told me what she wanted, an open field area with some nice tall trees in the background. I had just the location to fit this description, at this quaint little park just off of White Rock Lake in Dallas. She already had an idea of what they would wear, and so her biggest concern was location, and when she arrived she exclaimed that it was perfect!

We began their mini-session with the kiddos each getting their own individual portrait, then wrapped up with a few combinations of family portraits. I absolutely love how Melissa & JJ’s Family Mini Session turned out–and Melissa & JJ and their family loved them too–so much so that I was even asked to design Sophia’s 2nd birthday invitations using the portraits from this session!

We decided on a location in Keller for their convenience, and it was a wonderful, albeit crisp fall morning in November for their family portraits!

We let Kyla have a little fun with the leaves, and she took it to the extreme, as any preschooler would! She had a blast throwing the leaves up in the air and watching them float back to the ground.

As most of you already know, Kathryn Ewton Photography is a means for my husband and I to fundraise for our upcoming adoption. We have applied with a local agency, and are scheduled to attend their January 2013 adoption orientation. We are so excited to be able to begin the journey towards adoption and welcome home a baby into our family through domestic newborn adoption in the near future. It hasn’t been easy getting to this point, and having to wait nearly a year to meet the required 3 years of marriage before we could apply, but looking back, we fully trust that God has been working in our marriage, hearts, and lives to prepare us to grow our family through adoption.

These last few weeks I’ve been hammering out the financial sides of things, entering all expenses & income for the current quarter, and am proud to announce that in 2012, my wonderful clients have helped us raise approximately $1500 towards our adoption! We are both so grateful for your support of our adoption fundraising efforts, and hope that 2013 is another successful year!
