Scheduling Maternity & Newborn Sessions

Maternity Sessions

When should I schedule my maternity session?

I recommend scheduling your maternity session as soon as you can to be sure that can plan in advance for your session. I recommend that we pick a day/time that is between your 32nd and 36th week of pregnancy.

What location should I choose for my maternity session?

I love shooting maternity photos both in my client’s homes, as well as a nearby outdoor location. Client’s homes make great session locations because we can take some photos in the nursery, as well as with my transportable studio backdrop. If you are wanting some photos that reveal your pregnant belly, you may be more comfortable doing so inside your home. Outdoor sessions are also great because of the availability of sunlight, as well as scenery. We can discuss the pros and cons of each session location during your planning session with me.

Who may be included in my Maternity Session?

The Mom & Dad to-be should expect to both be involved in the Maternity Session. Some photos will just be of Mom, while others will incorporate the special bond & relationship between Mom & Dad before baby’s arrival. If you have other siblings that you would like to include in your maternity session, please let me know ahead of time so that we can be sure to plan for their participation.

Newborn Sessions

When should I schedule my Newborn session?

Newborn sessions should be scheduled as early as your 12th week of pregnancy. This will ensure that you have priority booking once baby arrives. Once baby arrives, newborn sessions will be scheduled between 5-10 days old.

How will we figure out when the Newborn Session will take place once baby is born?

I request that parents call, email, or text me as soon as baby is born. Some parents let me know when they are heading to the hospital, others wait until baby is born. If baby is born between 9pm and 8am, please email or text me, as opposed to calling. I will then take a look at my schedule and let you know 1-3 days and times that I have available for your newborn session.

What Should I expect on the day of the newborn session?

I will arrive to your home, and we will take a look around to find a spot near a window with lots of sunlight. Sometimes that may mean that we need to move a little furniture out of the way. I will then set up my equipment for the photo session. Some sessions may begin with Mom & Dad & Baby, others start with just Baby. We will determine how to start the session based on whether baby is wide awake, drowsy, or sleeping. You can expect the session to last between 1 1/2 hours and 4 hours–it all depends on how baby is feeling. I will provide you some tips on how to prepare for your newborn session once your session is reserved, following these tips help newborn sessions get off to a better start, and generally run more smoothly.

Who may be included in the newborn session?

I love for both Mom & Dad to be included in the Newborn session! Siblings may also be included, however priority is given to baby, Mom and Dad.
